Answers from Claremorris to Lansing

January 13, 2011 in Gilligan's, Quizzes

Those of you with highly tuned inference antennae will obviously have picked up from yesterday’s post that my team didn’t win Tuesday night’s quiz in Gilligan’s, Claremorris.  Our 92/100, whilst well ahead of third place, left us one behind the winners – my friend Ger’s team.

Grrr. That’ll teach me. Hubris is a bitch. 🙂

Certainly, I’ll be reminded of it when we next hook up for a quiz – which is tomorrow night, as it happens.

Until then, here are the answers to the questions I included in the post.

Questions:

  1. Where in Scotland is known as the ‘Granite City’? A> “Edinburgh”*
  2. Cashmere wool comes from which animal? A> Goat**
  3. What do you call a group of Porcupine? (Porcupines?) A> A prickle
  4. What is the name for the white liquid produced by the Rubber tree? A> Latex
  5. The Ulster National horse race takes place at which course? A> Downpatrick
  6. How many states make up the United Arab Emirates? A> Seven

  1. Anne Robinson
  2. Kenneth Egan
  3. Brian Cowen ***
  4. Helen Mirren
  5. Pat Carey
  6. David Cameron ***
  7. Amanda Brunker
  8. Bruce Springsteen
  9. Nicolas Sarkozy ***
  10. Marian Finucane
  11. Evelyn Cusack
  12. Angela Merkel ***

Interesting stuff indeed. Couple of controversial moments during the night.  Funnily enough, the one which didn’t raise any ire was question #1.  Whilst everyone certainly looked around, no-one felt like jumping over the proverbial parapet, and the moment passed by.  Asking around later, it became obvious that it didn’t benefit anyone as every table got it wrong. Or right, to be more accurate.

Until the weekend, bye for now.

* Erm, Aberdeen obviously.

** You will, no doubt, think that this is a pretty basic quizzing error.  However, we actually went to the other extreme and wrote down “Llama”. I kid you not…

*** The quizmistress was quite proud of pointing out (afterwards) that there had been a theme to this column. I don’t think there was any theme to the rest of them though.
