Never say never again: answers
March 11, 2011 in Gilligan's, Quizzes
The bumper week of quizness continues with the answers to the tricksy questions I posted yesterday.
The ‘Messi Lads’ emulated their eponymous hero and emerged victorious in that night’s contest. Unlike Barcelona though, we won by three!
Ger got in contact yesterday to remind me which questions went with those orphaned answers* I had. Since I’ve already published the answers, there’s not much point in being suspenseful, so here they are:
- Name the Roddy Doyle short story on which the theme for this year’s Dublin St. Patrick’s Festival is being based.
- In what year was the Irish halfpenny removed from circulation?
The rest of them:

2325 - Alphabetically, what is the second
animal listed in the English dictionary? A> Aardwolf ** - What was the name of Zimbabwe’s first President: Canaan Banana or Canaan Orange? A> Canaan Banana
Picture round, county crests:
- Wexford
- Donegal
- Cork
- Armagh
- Kilkenny
- Sligo
- Mayo
- Westmeath
- Leitrim
- Kildare
Wasn’t that a tough picture round? Especially as they were in good ol’ photocopier black and white.
* “1987” and “Brilliant”. Albeit not in that order.
**Is this the world’s most obscure animal? I’d certainly never ever heard of it.

Why is that when I went to search for aardwolf on google, the 5th or 6th image result was “aardwolf porn”?

Must be something to do with your search settings, Barry.

Is google smart enough to know what I *usually* search for?

Hi John,
The answer to number 14 above is wrong- it’s actually 25 female TDs in the Dáil. I only know this because my quiz team also got this wrong at a quiz in Limerick during the week. I looked it up to make sure. the list of female tds is towards the end of the page. http://www.rte.ie/news/election2011/results/index.html
Thanks, Nóra.

Thanks Nóra, I’ve changed that now. I must have a word with the quizmaster over this… 😉
