Squeal like a pig: answers
March 8, 2011 in Quizzes
Here are the answers to the questions posed yesterday. I’ll fly through this post pretty promptly as I have another one ready to go later today. Busy, busy, busy!
I forgot to mention in yesterday’s post that the quiz was run as a fundraiser for a man named Michael. What is Michael doing that he needs funds? Climbing a mountain for charity? Building houses in South Africa?
No, he’s running for something called the King of the Tubber. I have no clue what this prestigious title involves except that it’s must be to do with the town of Ballintubber. Presumably it’s a bit of a lark connected to a local festival. Michael is clearly believes it’s worth taking it seriously though since he’s engaging in campaign fundraising!*

As I also mentioned yesterday, we ended up winning the quiz. It was a close run thing though. At half-way we were one point in front of our nearest challengers. By the end – we were also one point ahead. I hate losing by a single point myself, so I felt their pain.
* I don’t generally mention prize money here but this night’s top prize, €60 in total, shows that his organisation is certainly determinedly fund-raising if nothing else.
** This one was actually explained on the mic beforehand as an example.
*** Since I’ve mentioned money already, I won €5 off my team-mate Marie on this lady. I didn’t know who she was – but I was certain about that not being a picture of Chelsea Clinton!

John, surely question 2 is an example of not asking the right question- the first movie with sound has to be the first with a soundtrack of any sort not the first with talking

I was just going to say what Dave did. I looked that up before having given the Jazz singer and gotten it wrong. Don Juan is the correct answer I think

It’s a good example of having to play the game of “what answer are they looking for here?”
The Jazz Singer was the one I was thinking of, Al Jolson and all that. Just couldn’t think of its name. 🙁
